Sustainable Coastal Enterprises and Resilient Livelihoods in Coastal Communities of Bangladesh

An 18-month pilot that turns trawler waste and trash fish into safe fish feed. The feed is then tested in climate-resilient aquaculture systems, with community training and enterprise development.

Sustainable Coastal Enterprises and Resilient Livelihoods in Coastal Communities of Bangladesh

Overview

The project, “Sustainable Coastal Enterprises and Resilient Livelihoods in Coastal Communities of Bangladesh,” is an ongoing initiative being implemented by Bangladesh Nature Foundation (BNF) in partnership with Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University and Versatile Sea Resources. The project is working to reduce marine pollution and resource wastage by developing a circular system that converts underutilized trawler and fish-processing waste into assessed feed ingredients and aquafeed. Alongside waste processing and feed development, the project is conducting climate-resilient aquaculture trials through solar-supported mini-RAS units and homestead poly-pond demonstrations. Community training, awareness activities, technical capacity building, scientific assessment and market-oriented enterprise development are being undertaken to strengthen sustainable coastal livelihoods and promote responsible resource utilization in coastal communities. The project is also generating practical knowledge and evidence to support the potential replication of circular aquaculture and sustainable livelihood approaches in other coastal areas.
